90-Day Success Plan for MusicPreneurs and Musicians. Part 1: How to Achieve Your Goal Without Overwhelm

In this second post of the blog series based on the 90-day Success Plan Course, we cover 5 steps that can help you to achieve your goal without overwhelm, or at least manage that feeling of *arggggggh!* and feel more in charge of things. The previous post shows how to create a plan, the first step towards success in this series. If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out here.

So now you’ve decided what you want, it’s time to make the motions to get it!

1. Break it Down (music middle 8 pun unintended)

The breakdown process makes reaching the goal easier, as you’ll be much clearer about things. To do this, you will first need to understand what steps you need to take to get to that goal. A simple way to start figuring out the steps is to brainstorm all that you think needs to be taken care of in order to attain that goal.

2. Analyse each step.

Next, it’s important to analyse each step in order to understand what it will take to carry it out.  This allows you to understand the time and resources it will take to get you there.

You will then be able to create an actionable and realistic schedule suited to the timeframe required. You will also know whether the goal or necessary tasks are overambitious, on point, or need to be refined. Doing this will prevent you crashing from burnout or overwhelm. It will also allow you to seek the resources you need (see next point) that will help to get the job done!

3. Know what steps to take, and the resources you’ll need

As stated in the last point the analysis will help you define the necessary steps to take. This allows you to cut out any unnecessary ones and keep and fine tune all the relevant ones. It’ll also help you to work out what resources you’ll need for each step. Knowing this in advance enables you to plan smoothly and to allow for potential obstacles along the way, as well as to fix any possible issues like a true boss, as you’ll be prepared and see them coming! If you’re really on it, you could even head them off before they do any damage!

4. Create a realistic and manageable plan to get you there.

Once you have looked at the steps, feasibility, and resources and have a realistic idea of how it will work, outline the plan. List the steps you need to take and place them into a timeline. Remember, you have your end goal as the final part of the timeline. All you have to do is use your analysis from step 2 to ensure each timeframe is realistic and attainable.

With the steps written out you’ll have checkpoints that you can use to help you manage the task and assure yourself that you’re getting things done (even when it doesn’t feel like it!). Also, with your process outlined, you’ll be more likely to anticipate potential problems or allow for unexpected delays. This helps to leave you feeling assured and more in control.

So now, you have a plan. *Hurrah!*

90-Day Success Plan For Musicpreneurs and Musicians. Pt 2: How to Achieve Your Goal Without Overwhelm - Visualise Often. Visualize Often.

5. Visualise your goal often

It’s so powerful to keep your goal(s) at the forefront of your mind. Visualising the end goal is a very powerful way to help you achieve it. Positive visualisation is something that athletes are known to use. When you envision the end goal, try to emulate the feeling that you expect will come over you when you achieve it. It could be butterflies, excitement, euphoria, and so much more! We all experience our achievements differently. Personally, I tend to feel warm and tingly and feel butterflies as if it’s happening in reality. The feel good factor of that ‘excitement buzz’ is just yummy!

I’ve used positive visualisation since I was a very young child and I believe the technique has helped me to achieve all that I have to date in business, as a musician, and in other areas of life. I have taught it and talked about it over the years with my vocal students, music success clients, and as a public speaker. If you don’t already use it for your shows or when improving your technique, check it out and give it a try. It’s amazing. Do let me know what you think when you do!

Positive visualisation tool suggestions:

Create a vision board (digital or old school), audio recordings for meditation, and/or add periodic reminders to your phone or calendar.
